Hello friends! Welcome to Stop and Smell the Flours, a blog where I document my journey on working with whole grain flours.

My baking adventure began when I baked a “sponge cake” from a cookbook that I riffled through hundreds of times but never muscled up the courage to try. Looking back on it now, it was more of a sweet dense omelette than a sponge cake. Nevertheless I was hooked by the process of mixing things up and watching them transform in the oven. My obsession had begun.

Since then, to my parent’s slight annoyance, I have been baking almost everyday, constantly testing out new pastries, refining recipes, and exploring different techniques. Stop and Smell the Flours came from my desire to delve into the flavorful world of whole grains and alternate flours, as their tendency to make baked goods dense and gummy caused me to shy away from them all these years.
